I have watched the videos and I have done done googling. π©πΎπ»I am still making sense of each as I don't feel confident in my understanding of each. At first I thought I was postpositivist because I believe that there is never a permanent end answer as things change as time moves and experiences happen. But then I googled and wasn't sure if I understood the idea of postpositive. I then felt I was a critical research lover because I want to digg up and continue to shine light on how power and structure play such a huge role in how we shape out and look at ways to erase and change that unbalanced way of life. Looking at the constructivist idea I am feeling like it isn't me but again I look forward to class πto get others interpretations and a real layman view. Hahaha even the Google layman explanation sent me for a spin. I probably am not far off I hope but am looking forward to listening and learning more about these.

UPDATED ANSWER: (I am after class discussion going to try to answer the assignment)
I am a Constructivist or a Critical researcher I think.
My question:
How meaningful engagement of YDP's impacts youth experience.
In a Post-positive view: I think I would collect data on the enrollment numbers and retention of members to reflect relationship building quality. I could do a poll with youth to see how they rate YDP engagement. I could look at demographic of both members and YDP's and note the cultural representation of youth and mentor.
In a Constructivist view: I would interview the youth and collect stories about YDP's and the experiences. I could interview the YDP and get different views of how they see the relationship with youth they mentor. I could go to an organization or a few and observe the interactions during a program and then interview all participants and compare and contrast experiences.
In critical view: I could look at how poor engagement effects development. How engagement impacts decision masking and behavior in program. Does enrollment reflect quality of engagement by YDP's.

It is still a little overwhelming for my brain but I think I have a bit better understanding after talking in class. But I think I would have to keep referring back to get a clear definition as I struggle at times to maintain a fluent memories.
Kelli, your post is relatable! It seems these research paradigms when googled have different applications and so it is defined differently based on if it is educational research, phycological, cultural research and more. I felt the videos were a quick intro to them and tried to give examples with the Marvel reference but further google research shows it is more than what was introduced. I wish more examples of each type of research would be given.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about the Post-Positivist approach. I also googled all the approaches and I think that confused me more.
ReplyDeleteI was lost at first because of th ways they were trying to describe each method but I was able to get it when I wrote a few notes and compared them against each other. It was a difficult week!
